This is Helicocranchia pfefferi, the banded piglet squid. It belongs to the genus helicocranchia (glass squid), and is a smaller species, with the average sized adult measuring only 100 milimetres. Due to the pigment colour under it’s eyes the banded piglet squid looks like it is always smiling.

At first glance you may see a bright pink bird, but this is in fact a flower. Impatiens psittacina, also known as the “parrot flower” or “parrot balsam” is a species of balsam from Southeast Asia and was noted for its flower that resemble a “flying cockatoo”. It is known from Thailand, Burma and parts of India.
What is a flotation tank?
500 kg of Epsom salts are added to 1000 litres of water, creating a 30 cm deep solution, which is heated to 35.5 degrees C (skin temperature). The temperature of the water means that once you are settled in the tank, it is virtually impossible to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the water, and those that aren’t, in effect “fooling” the brain into believing that the person is floating in mid-air.

Apoica Wasp nest Order: Hymenopteres. Apoica is a genus of eusocial paper wasps found throughout Central and South American tropics. These wasps are nocturnal, carrying out their foraging activities at night. They prefer to construct their nests, which have an open comb like many paper wasps, under large leaves, or in shrubs. During the day, wasps covering the comb fan their wings to cool the nest, keeping it at a suitable temperature for larval development. Henri Regnault, Salomé, 1870

Regnault initially represented this Italian model as an African woman, but he later enlarged the canvas at the bottom and right and transformed it into a representation of Salomé. She is shown after having danced for her stepfather, Herod Antipas, governor of Judaea. The platter and knife allude to the reward she claimed for her performance: the severed head of John the Baptist.
Regnault was killed during the Franco-Prussian War, just months after this picture was exhibited to great acclaim at the Salon of 1870. For years, the painting was considered a masterpiece of contemporary art. In 1912, when it was announced that it would be sold from a private collection, Baron Henri de Rothschild initiated a campaign to keep it in France. He was unsuccessful; “Salomé” was presented to the Metropolitan by one of the Museum’s trustees in 1916. (See more)
